Our last day and night in Nashville was saved for some education, and a tour of the beautiful Hermitage. The Hermitage was the home and plantation of President Andrew Jackson. The original log house, and mansion are both on the grounds-as well as buildings that housed slaves that worked for the Jackson's. The plantation grounds consume 1,120 acres-numerous buildings and gardens as well as the burial ground of the Jackson's and one slave who actually led the first tours of the Hermitage! The mostly self guided audio tour is fascinating and really gives a great look at the lives of the Jackson's and the way the world was in their time. We spent almost four hours touring the Hermitage-there was two elementary class field trips going on at the same time-how lucky those children were to get to go to the Hermitage for their class field trip!
