MORE SCENES FROM SUMMER CAMP

June 25,2009
Here are some pics-the bear grass blooming-a shot I took looking into the side mirror-of Ginger looking out of her window-
some darling neighbor children loving on Ginger-they left yesterday and had to give her just a bit more belly rubbing! the little boy was named Andrew-then there was Olivia and Hanna. We really enjoyed then living next door for the weekend! The robin and her babies are in the nest above the office door-I have been enjoying watching her feed the kids everyday! Enjoy!

MORE STORIES FROM SUMMER CAMP-FINALLY!!

jUNE 25,2009

OK, I HAVE BEEN SO LONG IN WRITING-BUT WE HAVE BEEN PRETTY BUSY HERE-AND I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY, AND SEEMS SO LITTLE TIME TO JUST SIT DOWN AND SAY IT!
With that said-here goes! Being a "workamper" is both fun, tiring, challenging and crazy at times. There have been times when we look at each other-and we say what in the heck are we doing? Other times we are just having so much fun with everyone here that we can't imagine spending time doing anything else-weird, but true. The days go by pretty fast-especially the days we have off-the camp is getting increasingly busier as summer moves on,and the fourth of July is just around the corner. We are almost in the middle of "the season"-that time we have been warned about is nearly upon us-and yes, at times we are scared! There are lots of happy campers out in the world who are just waiting to get here and play-this vacation stuff is pretty serious business! Our job is to make our guests have the best camping experience possible-and not to kill ourselves in the process! Just when it gets to the point where we are so tired and stiff-someone come up and thanks us for the help we gave in finding them the perfect spot, helping them back their motorhome in to their space-or the helpful hints on exploring Glacier Park. We come home to our beautiful space in the forest, listen to the robins singing-the sound of the wind in the tall pines-and all the stiffness is gone for another day. We have been doing a lot of exploring-looking for the perfect fishing and picnic spots-hiking to that beautiful lake in Glacier, and just enjoying this beautiful place that we are so fortunate to be living in for this summer. Glacier Park is a quick 20 miles from here-just one of the most beautiful spots we have seen. We saw our first moose a couple of weeks ago-huge!
That same day Mike and I did a great hike up to Avalanche Lake-lots of up-hill climbing-but we were rewarded with the most beautiful lake, snow capped mountains and waterfalls-and a deer coming down to the beach while we had our lunch. We got home feeling pretty good about ourselves-we hiked and did not die doing it! I immediately ordered new hiking "sandals"-the boots are just not my thing-and my toes are so happy now.Montana promotes a very healthy lifestyle-everyone is outside,walking-fishing-and just enjoying the few months out of the year that are not covered in snow! It seems like every week something new is blooming in the woods-when something quits blooming-something new is there to take over. The color in the forest is beautiful-oranges,pinks, yellow and purple. The bear grass is blooming now-I will have a pic of this for you-it is really a pretty and strange flower-and I have been told it only blooms every seven years-so we are lucky to see it! Next month begins the popular huckleberry season-this is huge here-along with cherries-we have a lot of berry picking to look forward to.
We have had our Andy here for the past week-it has been fun to be able to share all of the cool things we have been enjoying here with him. Yesterday we all went fishing-we went to Little Beaver Lake-only a short way from home. Andy found "the hole" and he and Mike came home with some beautiful trout-some of which Andy cooked for breakfast today-yum! We had enough to share with some of our neighbors-and enough to grill tonight for dinner! For our first actual Montana fishing expedition-pretty darn good!
So, as you can see-we have little time to get into trouble-although we did go out to the local hotspot last night-the "Bluemoon"-we stayed out way too late-danced way to many dances-not-and had a blast. Good thing we have today off to get our heads back together! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and it is GOOD to be in Montana!
enjoy the pics-I am just going to post as many as I can-not in any particular order-cause that is how this site is-so enjoy! We miss you all-and know we will be seeing everyone before too long!

CHECKING OUT WHERE THE LOCALS GO

June 3rd,2009

Another week of work, and another two days off to explore. Today we are heading up to an area we have been told has great fishing- a locals favorite to go play.
We are going to find upper Whitefish Lake, about 20 miles from camp. We head out in a clean truck-and will not return that way. The road to the lake is dirt, very bumpy, and has not been travelled on much since the snow has melted. This would be a good road for a jeep, but the truck takes the bumps well-my stomach not so much! the scenery is beautiful, snow is still present along the road in some spots. Ginger, riding in "her" back seat, has put "her" window down, and is happily riding with her head out in the wind. We spot several Canadian geese, and a few large whitetail deer in a clearing-the day is clear and a bit chilly. On we go, higher and higher-bumpier and bumpier the road gets-but we have seen several rushing streams and know the lake is close. We finally see it-and it is large and very deep blue. There are several tents and campers up here-talk about remote camping! There is a fisherman with his pole and his Springer Spaniel. He has caught a few fish this morning. I think about how much fun my daddy had fishing Rush Creek all those years-and how patient he was with all of us children when we got our line snagged-a lot! We parked the truck,Ginger almost flew out of the truck, and immediately into the icy cold water. She did not seem to even notice how cold it was, happy to lap up the fresh water. This is a beautiful place to come during the week, we are told. During the summer months on weekends, it gets to be like a mini city-crowds packed in with boats and wave runners. today it is just quiet and peaceful. Next week we will search out Link Lake and its many streams-look out fishies!!!
Tomorrow I have flower bowls to plant-and then tomato and bell peppers in my new topsy turvy planter!

YIPPEEE!!! FIELD TRIP DAY!

May 28th,2009

Mike and I,and of course,Ginger-are off work today-and we are ready for a field trip!
This beautiful area we are "guest" living in has so much to explore, and today we are checking out the Big Mountain resort area, and Whitefish Lake. The town of Whitefish is only a few miles from camp. Lots of good restaurants and shopping-and then there is Whitefish Lake-beautiful! We first drove up to Big Mountain-in the winter this is a very popular ski resort. Summer brings visitors to the lodges and hiking trails. We saw or first deer of the season on the road up the hill. Next we wound around whitefish Lake-the water is the most beautiful shade of turquoise-blue.
We were amazed at some of the more-than-fabulous homes around this lake-most with private boat docks-all with fantastic waterfront views. We also drove by some beautiful horse ranches-set in this pretty green valley with the mountains in the distance-so very peaceful and lush. We feel lucky to be here in the spring and summer this time-everything is in full bloom-mock orange, wild rose, wild daisies, and much more that I cannot name-but it is all so very pretty, and fragrant!
On the road that leads back into camp, we were greeted by a large deer just standing by the roadside waiting for us to come take his picture-what a good day off it has been!
