CHECKING OUT WHERE THE LOCALS GO

Another week of work, and another two days off to explore. Today we are heading up to an area we have been told has great fishing- a locals favorite to go play.
We are going to find upper Whitefish Lake,about 20 miles from camp. We head out in a clean truck-and will not return that way. The road to the lake is dirt, very bumpy,and has not been travelled on much since the snow has melted. This would be a good road for a jeep,but the truck takes the bumps well-my stomach not so much! the scenery is beautiful,snow is still present along the road in some spots. Ginger, riding in "her" back seat, has put "her" window down, and is happily riding with her head out in the wind. We spot several Canadian geese, and a few large whitetail deer in a clearing-the day is clear and a bit chilly. On we go, higher and higher-bumpier and bumpier the road gets-but we have seen several rushing streams and know the lake is close. We finally see it-and it is large and very deep blue. There are several tents and campers up here-talk about remote camping! There is a fisherman with his pole and his Springer Spaniel. He has caught a few fish this morning. I think about how much fun my daddy had fishing Rush Creek all those years-and how patient he was with all of us children when we got our line snagged-a lot! We parked the truck,Ginger almost flew out of the truck, and immediately into the icy cold water. She did not seem to even notice how cold it was,happy to lap up the fresh water. This is a beautiful place to come during the week, we are told. During the summer months on weekends, it gets to be like a mini city-crowds packed in with boats and wave runners. today it is just quiet and peaceful. Next week we will search out Link Lake and its many streams-look out fishies!!!
Tomorrow I have flower bowls to plant-and then tomato and bell peppers in my new topsy turvy planter!
