A DAY IN BEAUTIFUL ZION

April 9,2009

We are staying in Cedar City,Utah for the week-waiting for some more snow to melt, working our way slowly up Int. 15 to Montana. Today we took a beautiful drive to Zion National Park. It is about an hour or so from our base camp. We drove thru some fantastic scenery, temps starting out at 45-dipping down to 29, and ending at around 60 in the park. There is still a lot of snow around-some of the parks are still closed for the winter season-it is really beautiful here. We drove all through Zion-it is all about the mountains there-and the mountain peaks make you feel very, very, tiny! The rich red colors are unlike anywhere else-the contrast of the red with the blue, blue sky is just heavenly. This is a place that Nolan and Kris love-and we thought about them all day-wishing they were here too. Mike took Jessica here when she was about 12 years old-it was fun for him to relive those memories!
There are two tunnels-just amazing how they were built right through the mountain peaks in the '20s-there are places where there are openings where you can look out over the beautiful landscape-then dark again! We had to pay extra to go thru in the dually-but we got to go thru all by ourselves-and drive right down the middle all alone with no cars coming in the opposite direction-too fun! sometimes it is fun to be "BIG". We took a nice little hike with Ginger along the Virgin River-the campground was totally full-lots of bicycles and walkers. Tonight Ginger is totally worn out-we had to carry her up the steps to get in the house-she is a little trouper-but not a great hiker! All in all it was a perfect day-and we got home in time for me to write all of this-I am glad to be back in the blog-I have missed writing to you all!! tomorrow we will just check out the cute old town part of cedar City-Mike did his driving today!
